I grew up a country girl and have always had a deep connection with animals and all things outdoors. Pursuing better health has become a life long journey. My biggest challenge and success has been my diet. A big part of my growth has come from my love for nature and how much it provides. Every season my heart is filled with joy as I watch the little seeds we plant grow into healthy vegetables. I absolutely love cooking and when I sit down to plan a meal it just blows me away to see that often over 75% of my ingredients came from our back yard. Growing food the correct way is hard work. Not everyone has the time or energy to provide for themselves in this way. Sharing my love for food production feels like a blessing. I am passionate and energetic and I see this farm and what we do here as my contribution to bettering our world. I am blessed that this farm has become a family affair. Working side by side with my loved ones is both challenging and rewarding. We are the best balance of doers and dreamers, together we will do amazing things!
Christine - The Chicken Lady, Planting Manager
I have lived in the country a long time and have always enjoyed the busy lifestyle. When we transitioned our hobby farm into a real working farm it was a perfect fit right from the start. I am a busy body and thrive in the minute to minute details of organizing our farm life. I have always had a green thumb, flowers or vegetables, you name it and I can probably grow it. My newest passion is without a doubt our chickens. I love to fuss over them. They are amazing little creatures that have found a special place in my heart. Every day I find something to laugh about as I care for them.
All aspects of what we do here at Hungry Soul Farm brings me joy. It never feels like work and I am so proud of what we have to offer our community.
Mike - The Professor of Maintenance, Infrastructure, and Everything else
I fell in love with our property the first time I steped into the driveway. An old farmhouse, acres and acres of overgrown pasture, and one amazing view of the river. It needed some work but for me that was no problem, I am a dreamer. It only took a few days before I had a plan for the whole property in my head, then it was time to get to work. I have spent the last 15 years enjoying and improving our farm. Fitting of a proper dreamer, I love a fresh crazy idea, why not, lets become farmers! My biggest love of all is probably information. I read more than anyone I know and have a great mind for facts which has lent itself well to learning about sustainable farming. I also pride myself on being a problem solver. I am generlly too stuborn to give up and I am good at working with limited resources...come to think of it farming is a pretty good fit for me.
Marcus - Keeper of the Bees, The Muscle
When I am not on the farm I work at Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the outpatient mental health clinic. As a counselor, one of my passions is health and wellness. I love running and biking, and challenge myself by participating in triathlons and several running events throughout the year. I have always had interest in my health. My passion for quality, natural food was only heightened after being exposed to growing on the farm. Working the soil and being able to grow foods that I feel at peace with putting into my body has been very satisfying. I believe everyone should have access to locally grown, chemical free food. It’s exciting to be a part of providing the public with foods produced in a sustainable way that is good for us and the environment. As we have grown our knowledge of sustainable farming we quickly realized how important bees are in nature. We also love honey so bee hives seemed like a good fit. After much research, the summer of 2016 started my first official year as a bee keeper.
Robin - Vegetable whisperer
I am a ceramic artist and farmer in training. I have a deep love & connection for the natural world. I met Madeline in 2014 while working at cafe at 407 in Liverpool & we instantly bonded over our love for farming. I am passionate about growing food that will nourish and enrich our lives and our bodies.. After volunteering in the summer of 2015 I knew I found my farm home! I am excited to join the team this year!
Cory - Master of the Landscape, Crisis Manager
After living in North Carolina for 10 years I finally made my way back home in 2014. At the time the farm was still just getting settled and with all the work to be done I stuck close to home to help out. My main tasks involve maintaining the landscape of the 22 acre farm, and now the expanding 86 acres across the street.
There is always something to do and outside of landscaping, I do what is critical on any particular day. Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies and naturally I also enjoy working with all of the herbs we grow. I head up processing and drying and packaging them each year. I never tire of experimenting with each flavor as we establish and grow our permanent herb garden.
I love being a part of our family farm and knowing that our hard work is producing healthy food for our family, friends and community.
